For many years in the United States the only tokusatsu available for purchases were "Godzilla" moves on VHS tape. Altough "Ultraman" had been shown on American television and severa other henshhin heroes had been shown in Hawaii and California they were not available for purchase to watch at home, not licensed from legitmate sources anyway. Its only since early 2000s that companies in the US have started to release henshin heroes on licensed DVDs and more recently Blu-ray. I've listed companies which I am aware of that have released various henshin heroes from Ultraman to Super Sentai in the US, unless otherwise noted they are Japanese with English subtitles. I've also included the martial arts action series "Fight! Dragon" and the series about ninja "Shadow Warriors" as well as the Chinese super hero "Inframan". The list is in alphabetical order by company and then chronological order by year the series originally aired in Japan.
Most of these series are from Tsuburaya Productions or Toei Company, Ltd. Sadly not one Toho henshin hero series has been released in the US although Rainbowman and Diamond Eye were aired on television in Hawaii in the 1970s. Apparently Toho does not belive there is an audience for their products other than Godzilla (real name Gojira). None of P-Productions' series have been released in US either. A movie parody of "Denjin Zaboga" is available on DVD.
The first tokusatsu DVDs I ever purchased were the JN Productions box sets of the first henshin heroes I ever saw, in Hawaii (in the 1970s), Kikaida, Kikaida-01, Kamen Rider V3 and Inazuman. They added the reboot Kikaida movie later. italicized titles are ones I have purchased or plan to in the case of future releases.
Showa Era or Showa Period (1926-1989)
Heisei Era or Heisei Period (January 8, 1989 - April 30, 2019)
Reiwa Era or Reiwa Period (May 1, 2019 - )
Kikaida was originaly released in 9 DVDS each released seperately over a period of months. After all 9 volumes were avaialble a Collector's Edition including all 9 volumes plus a slide cut from the 3D movie. The others series were only released in box sets. The Kamen Rider V3 and Inazuman movies are not included. When first released the Kikaida Collector's Edition Boxed Set was available autographed by Ban, Daisuke (Jiro/voice of Kikaida), because he was in Hawaii celebrating the release. Those autographed sets sold out. JN Productions sold their DVDs and other tokusatsu items on their web site which closed down on May 1, 2023)
BCI Eclipse went bankrupt in 2009, their properties sold to Mill Creek Enteraintment which rereleased most of these titles. Their demise put an end to the planned release of all Shadow Warrior series (1-6). As far as I can tell Mill Creek Enteraintment has not rereleased Shadow Warriors 1. I have the BCI set. BCI Eclispe DVDs can still be found on Amazon.
