In 2002 "Kikaida 01: The Animation" (2001) was followed by a direct to DVD special intitled "The Boy Who Carried a Guitar: Kikaida vs. Inazuman" (Guitar wo Motta Shônen - Kikaida tai Inazuman). This special is the official end to the animated version of the Kikaida story.
After the tragic events of Kikaida 01: The Animation episode 4, Jiro is a sad and lonely wanderer. Unable to control his rage he is afraid to return to Mitsuko and Masaru. He fears that he may hurt them.
When Jiro meets high school student Kazeta, Saburu nickname Sabu, (Watari, Goro in the live action TV series "Inazuman") the android goes crazy and attacks the boy.
Sabu is no ordinary kid but is in fact a powerful mutant with psionic powers. And when Jiro attacks he fights back, transforming into the ugly brown warrior Sanagiman and then the blue warrior Inazuman.
Inazuman's most dangerous power is the ability to generate lightning like bolts of energy.
Jiro's guitar holds a dadly secret, its now a machine gun. Sadly the guitar was destroyed in the battle.
After this Inazuman and Kikaida become friends. Private detective Hattori, Hanpei who has been searching for Jiro, in order to return him to Mitsuko, finaly finds him. Jiro is still not ready to return to Mitsuko, so Sabu uses his psionic powers to cause Hanpei to forget that he found Jiro.
Jiro sits alone, dreaming of playing his guitar for Mitsuko and Masaru, until he remembers that he no longer has his guitar. Even that has been lost to him. And so ends "The Boy Who Carried a Guitar: Kikaida vs. Inazuman" the final episode of the animated Kikaida series.
There are a number of differences between the 1970s live action Inazuman television series and this anime. The major differences are:
(1) In the live action series the character is named Watari, Goro not Kazeta, Saburu aka Sabu, and he is a college student not a high school student.
(2) In the live action series Inazuman's psionic abilities are greatly reduced so that he actually has to punch and kick the evil mutants. Watari, Goro doesn't exhibit any strange powers at all.
(3 Inazuman doesn't generate lighting bolts in the original live action Inazuman series, that doesn't happen until Inazuman Flash, when he's fighting evil robots which are harder to destroy than mutants, and then he only does it as a last resort.
(4) Inazuman has a flying car, Raijingo, in the live action series.
(5) Jiro/Kikaida never appears in Inazuman, probably because Jiro and Watari, Goro are both played by Ban, Daisuke.
