The peaceful planet of Jillucia, in the Andromeda galaxy has been invaded by the Gavanas Empire. Kido, leader of the tribes of Jillucia, sends out eight Liabe Seeds to seek help in liberating their planet. Kido's granddaughter, Princess Emeralida, and the warrior Urocco follow the seeds into space. The Gavanas, on the orders of Emperor Rockseia XXII, pursue the Jillucian's space-galleon as it flees the planet.
A group of very unlikely heroes are found who eventually defeat the evil emperor. The Jillucia who surive the battle are offered asylum on Earth but decide to find a new homeworld of their own and fly off into space.
Message From Space (Uchu kara no Messeji) was followed by television series Message from Space: Galactic Wars (Uchu kara no Messeji: Ginga Taisen).
