Urutora Q (Ultra Q), was a black and white science ficton series originally invisioned by Tsuburaya, Eij to be like the American series "The Twilight Zone" or "The Outer Limits" but after a survey found that Japense children who were the core audience really liked daikaiju ("giant strange beasts") it became a series about giant monsters. The "Q" stands for "question". The original title of the series was to be "Unbalanced" which is referenced in the opening narration of some of the early episodes, which speaks of liviing in an unbalanced world. That portion of the narration is later dropped.

Manjome, Jun Edogawa, Yuriko Togawa, Ippei

When strange beasts or other odd occurances happen a small group of people with no official standing set out to investigate them: Manjome, Jun; helicopter and small airplane pilot for Hoshikawa Air Service and an amateur sciene fiction writer flies the team around Japan. Edogawa, Yuriko a reporter writes up their adventures for the Daily News. She is the only female in the group. Togawa, Ippei youngest member of the team works with Jun. at Hoshikawa Air Service.

Professor Ichinotan News Desk Editor, Seki

Professor Ichinotani a renowned scientist sometimes aids them (episodes 3, 4, 8, 12, 13, 22, 25, 27, 28). The Professor will eventually go on to be instrumental in forming the Japanese branch of the international Science Special Search-Party aka the Science Patrol, as seen in the sequel to Urutora Q (Ultra Q), Urutoraman (Ultraman). Edogawa, Yuriko boss at the newspaper News Desk Editor, Seki assigns her to the stories and hires her friends at Hoshikawa Air Service to fly her around.

Unlike other tokusatsu series each episode ends not with "TO BE CONTINUED" but with "THE END" as each is a stand alone story, with the five main characters being involved in each the only connection.



More Ultra Q Music


In 1967 Tsuburaya and TBS licensed Ultra Q to CBS Films (producers of "The Twilight Zone") and hired Film House (now DeLuxe Toronto) in Canada to dub the entire series in English. CBS then backed out of the deal. United Artists Television (producers of "The Outer Limits") picked it up along with Ultraman. however no network or channel wanted Ultra Q because it was black and white and the merchants pressured them to only run color programs in order to sell color television sets, so unlike Ultranman which was in color, it was never aired in the US.

On October 15, 2019 Ultra Q was released on Blu ray, by Mill Creek Entertainment, in Japanese with English subtites
