"Wagahai, Iga Ninja no Hattori Hanzo no shison Hattori Hanpei da!"
Hattori, Hanpei the private detective with no automotive skills, who
claims to be a direct descendant of the legendary Iga ninja Hattori,
Hanzo, is shown no respect by Komyoji, Masaru who constantly calls him
"Hanpen", a dish made from ground fish. Hanpei starts out greedy and
cowardly. However, as the series progresses he becomes braver (even
fights a couple andorids in one episode) and less greedy. Hanpei is
introduced in episode two. Three times in the series when the familiar
guitar music is heard it turns out to be Hanpei, not Jiro, playing it.
Hanpei frequently has trouble with his car, when he does he tries to
ninja tricks to make it run.
Hanpei appears in many different costumes, sometimes he even dresses
like a woman. In episode 23 he takes the place of a bride in order to
project the woman from the Dark. Jiro impersonates the groom.
Hanpei makes guest appearances in
episodes 36 and 37 of Kikaida-01.
Hattori, Hanpei was played by Ueda, Shun (b. November 24, 1943).
